Ghanaian sprinters Benjamin Kwaku Azamati and Rasheed Saminu will compete in the individual sprint events at the 2024 Olympic Games following qualification by ranking.
Azamati’s world ranking of 39th and Saminu’s 54th qualified them to represent Ghana in the 100m heats at the Paris Games.
Despite failing to make the standard qualifying time, the two were ranked among the top 56 in the world at the end of June.
Already, Azamati had helped the country’s 4x100m relay team to make the Olympics at the World Relays in May while Saminu had met the qualifying standard for the 200m event.
Unfortunately, Isaac Botsio, a member of Ghana’s men’s relay team, finished outside the top 56.
200m expert Joseph Paul Amoah also missed out on a place after finishing 62nd in the ranking.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to start on Friday, July 26 and end on Sunday, August 11.
