Emmanuel Mamah’s second-half strike in Douala, Cameroon gave Ghanaian champions FC Samartex a vital away win in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifiers.
They played Cameroonian champions Victoria United, popularly known as Opopo, on Sunday, August 18.
The match, played at the Japoma Sports Stadium in Douala, was the first outing for the Ghanaians.
After a goalless first half in a near-empty stadium, the Timber Giants came back from the break a more motivated side.
Mamah struck in the 56th minute.
His goal keeps hopes alive for the debutants in making it to the next round of the qualifiers.
FC Samartex left Douala a few hours after the game to prepare for the return leg, scheduled for Sunday, August at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The winner of both legs will play either AS GNN of Niger of Raja Casablanca of Morocco in the final qualifiers.
