German-based Otto Addo will continue in his role as head coach of Ghana’s senior national football team the Black Stars at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup until December 2022, the Ghana Football Association has confirmed.
“This follows exhaustive negotiations and engagement with all relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” the GFA statement said.
The development follows earlier assertions by Otto Addo that his employers, Borussia Dortmund, had given their blessing for his continual stay with Ghana after successfully overseeing Ghana’s World Cup playoff games vs. the Super Eagles of Nigeria in March as a stop-gap coach.
Addo, who is the head of talent at Dortmund, will be allowed to coach the national team in the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers and preparations for Qatar 2023.
The GFA also confirmed that Dutch-born George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani will continue in their roles as assistant coaches and Chris Hughton stays on as technical director.
The GFA statement continued that the technical team will name their squad for Match Day 1 and 2 of the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 qualifiers as well as a pre-world cup four-nation tournament.
