The Ministry of Youth and Sports has assured that the issues raised by the inspection team of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Sports Stadium are being addressed.
The Ministry says it will, therefore, look forward to an inspection by CAF on those two facilities soon.
This follows the approval of the Accra Sports Stadium for the Ghana-Sudan Africa Cup of Nations qualifier scheduled for Friday, October 11.
There was apprehension regarding a venue for that game as CAF withdrew approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium due to its poor pitch as evidenced in the 1-0 loss to Angola.
Reacting to the approval by CAF, the Sports Ministry in a statement reiterated its commitment to ensuring that sports facilities meet the highest of standards for international sporting competitions.
”In line with this, the Ministry has directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) to, henceforth, apply strict maintenance schedule for our national stadia and other facilities.
”Concurrently, issues raised by CAF with the Baba Yara and Cape Coast stadia, are being addressed, and we look forward to another inspection by CAF soon, for restoration of the status of these national stadia as approved venues for CAF and FIFA matches.”
