It was a disappointing outing for Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team at the Stade de France after the team failed to make the finals.

To worsen the outcome, officials marked the team ‘Disqualified’ after an infringement was spotted with the final baton change.

A few days after Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu missed out on a place in the men’s 100m final and the failure of Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah to make the Women’s High Jump final, all hope in track and field was placed in the men’s relay team.

Their triumph at the African Championships in Douala earlier in the year had lifted the hopes higher.

Racing in Heat 2 with Jamaica only the threat for the Ghanaian quartet, many believed the team will at least make Friday’s finals.

However, Saminu’s handover to Azamati was slow, affecting the change to Ibrahim Fuseini.

Fuseini appeared to have run slower as anchor leg Joseph-Paul Amoah hopped off earlier, getting him past the crossline before receiving the baton.

He finished 6th in 38.62s for Ghana but was adjudged to have changed the baton after the Yellow Mark.

This disappointment brings the Olympic Games campaign to an end for the country..

Ghana would have to return to the blocks to prepare for the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.
