Real Tamale United (RTU) have been slapped with a GH100,000 fine for fielding unqualified players in their match day 28 game against Dreams FC in the just-ended 2023/2024 Ghana premier league season, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has announced.
According to the Disciplinary Committee, RTU’s actions brought the game into disrepute as they deceived match officials into believing the players they had fielded in the game were legitimately registered on the club’s roster for the season.
RTU are said to have admitted knowingly featuring illegitimate players in the game to “alleviate an already bad situation”. Registered players of the club are said to have boycotted the game because they were owed outstanding wages by the club.
In addition, the club officials who accompanied the team to the game were each slapped with a one-year ban from all football-related activities in Ghana. They are head coach Iddi Manzah Alhassan, Team Doctor Abdul-Samed Iddrisu, Team Manager Tanko Jentumah, Equipment Officer Abdul-Gafaru Salifu, and Goalkeepers’ Trainer Sylvester Yaw Apanka.
The Pride of the North were relegated from the elite division at the end of the season and are set to play in the division one league next season.
