Ghana’s Thomas Partey has been named in the Arsenal midfield for the North London derby game with Tottenham Hotspurs.
It will be recalled Partey quit the Black Stars in their recent friendly with Brazil for what was initially reported to be a knee injury.
Reports indicated he picked up a knock in the warm up and was rested as a precaution but the Ghana Football Association later issued a press release indicating the UK based player had been given permission to fly back to his club for further assessment.
In his pre match press conference yesterday, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta indicated Partey was part of the team for the crunch game.
The development leads some credence to suspicions Partey so called injury m ay have been a hoax and only an excuse not to play for Ghana.
On the otherhand, some may also justify his actions because Partey has only recently returned to the Arsenal team after a three week thigh injury and the London based side may have pilled the pressure on the former Atletico Madrid player not risk another injury playing for Ghana. Arsenal signed Partey for a reported fee of 45 million euros.
Well, the jury is out on Partey’s decision not to feature for his country.
