As part of this year’s Aboakyer Festival celebration of the people of Effutu (Winneba), Dreamland Sports Plus is partnering with the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional area to organise Aboakyer Games 2022.
The collaboration saw the event organisers led by Olla Williams, CEO of Dreamland Sports, and the Nenyi Ghartey VII – Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area join forces to bring excitement and honour to the people of Effutu.
The historic collaboration has seen events being competed for in Tug of war, ampe, cooking competition, Regatta and a football competition involving ten teams.
The Games started last Tuesday at the Liberation Square where the men’s Tug of war and the ladies Ampe took place, followed later in the afternoon by the famous Regatta event along the coast.
Meanwhile, the Dayaasaw team put up a spirited performance to beat Wonsomu 2:1 in the final contest of the Tug of War event which was competed for by ten teams.
Sarah Ladies defeated Ansaful Ladies to claim first prize in the hotly Ampe competition which involved eight teams.
The two-day football event followed on Wednesday and climaxes on Thursday with the final game. As well, ten pairs of contestants competed for the prize of the best cook in the special cooking contest.
It is a recognised fact that across the country, festivals bring people together. In this instance, both the indigenes and outsiders were made to feel a part of the celebrations.
According to the event organisers, Olla Williams, CEO of Dreamland Sports, the event was meant “to bring the people together and provide a platform for people to showcase their talents.”
The event was made possible through the active participation of others such as the Communications Director William Ayiku Ocansey, the President, Central Regional Tug of War Association /Organiser Dreamland Sports Plus, Seth Ayensu Bortsie, among others.
It is sponsored by APM, JAMAA Soup, Frytol, Alive Soap, and Afribull.
The organisers hope to make the Games an annual fixture on the calendar.
