Kenyan sprint king Ferdinand Omanyala set up a showdown with South Africa’s Akani Simbine in the 100m final after clocking 10.07s to win his semifinal heat at the CAA African Seniors Championships on Wednesday.
The Kenyan had earlier produced 10.05s in the heats to advance to the semis.
Simbine on the other hand stopped the clock at 10.09s to win his semifinal heat, having clocked 10.14 earlier in the heats.
The pair met at the fourth leg of the Athletics SA Grand Prix series in Germiston, Johannesburg where Omanyala upstaged the home favourite. He blitzed to a 9.98-second finish ahead of Simbine, who crossed the line in 10.11sec.
