Ghana’s women’s U-20 coach Yusif Basigi is aiming at making history by qualifying for the first time to the knockout rounds at the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
The Black Princesses have made six consecutive appearances in the tournament from 2010 to 2022 but never progressed from the group stages on each occasion.
Basigi, who coached the team at the 2018 edition of the tournament, says this is something his team hopes to address in Colombia.
“I was there as coach of the Black Princesses in 2018 and we could not progress past the group stage. This year in Colombia, we are looking forward to breaking that jinx,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ghana is drawn alongside Austria, Japan, and New Zealand in their group for the tournament that kicks off on 31st August.
The tournament runs from 31st August to 22nd September 2024.
